Production Plan Reflection for Project 2!

Stick. To. My. Plan. Four words that need improvement carrying on into future trimesters. I work well under pressure. That is something I have come to realize whilst being a student at SAE. The exciting thing for me here is the thought of how I would perform if I didn't sell myself short and kept this work pace up from the get go. I would loved to have had more time to work on this mix, but deadlines are tight right now. I left myself short on getting both written work and mixes done in a professional time frame. If production had begun on this project mid Tri as it should have been, there would have been more time for mixing, rather than playing catch up on paperwork.

As stated in a previous blog, I had troubles getting myself into a new group for Project Two. Upon the realization of having to do a solo project, I enlisted the help of a fellow student to help with the production. I immediately designed a Pre-Production Plan for the track to help map out how the process can run efficiently. I would create the melody, do all the mixing and my new teammate,Tav, would do the drum design. The lack of momentum moving from week 7 to week 9, really put me under a lot of pressure to get all of the tasks completed in the short time frame that I had left... 2 weeks.

As you can clearly see from the projected milestone table above, There isn't much room for error. It is a literal three week turnaround for a project that had the possibility of being a six week task. Time management is about getting organised early, allowing for potential variables and creating a mitigation plan for when things go wrong. Following the milestone table, below lies an excerpt from the Pre-Production plan laying out the steps necessary to complete the project-

Following the production plan for this track has been reasonably successful. I say 'reasonably' as the product deliverable was made on time and all elements apart from mixing were started/completed within the milestone timetable. The mixing side of the process began about 4 or 5 days outside the time frame allocated. This is due to being rushed and lumped with blogs to write for assessment. Better time management would have alleviated the stress of the project and freed up time for me to work on the project for a greater period. I think the allotted milestone time frame was sufficient enough to get the project done, albeit the fact it was started late in the trimester. The final deliverable's quality reflected the mix time- it was decent for a novice, but required more work.

Time got away from me during the Tri. Besides the fact that I had sporadic employment shifts that had to be taken due to financial difficulties, I definitely could have managed my free time more efficiently. This will be the last time that I write something like this. It has been over 10 years since I was involved in any tertiary education, and has been a major transition for me personally. I now have a good understanding of the workload requirements needed for me to excel, and not just scrape by. I fully expect myself to perform at a much higher standard next trimester. Putting myself in these difficult situations has angered me to be honest. My skills have developed tenfold that is a certainty, but my results could have been better if I had managed my time more. I am looking forward to the end of year break to really tackle the art of production and hit the ground running next year. Success is earned and rarely given. I know I can perform to a higher standard and relish the chance to do so from here on in.
