As I have mentioned in a previous blog for Project One, myself and Peter had begun the Production Plan and PPP for the project and almost had it finished in its entirety. We then adopted a newcomer to become the third member of the crew...Cody! He is a good friend and a helpful and productive team member. It was definitely an added pressure to get him up to speed on the production process and trying to explain the general feel and direction of the track we intended to produce.

He added some input on the target demographic for the PPP which was very useful and also lined up a fantastic guitarist for the the recording process.

(Above is a screenshot of the guitarist auditioning for the track, which we loved)

It's a little harder to talk about the communication between myself and other group member Peter, as we are always together. Our conversations should most definitely not be recorded haha.

On the first day of production, recording lead guitar, we were a well oiled engine. Myself and Peter manned both the desk and the DAW, and Cody was the live room technician. It was important and a team effort to get the correct signal flow and levels for track. Two different microphone setups were tried for the purpose of determining the best possible technique for the project. We recorded the guitar for both the hook and the verses in the one sitting. The day was a success and a promising start to the track.

Some difficulties occurred when we realised there was a missed chord by the guitarist later

on in the project. I tried to remedy this as seen below, by getting the recording artist in to redo the hook. We ended up finishing the conversation in person the following day where Cody let us know the day the guitarist was free to re-record. Unfortunately it fell at a time where the studios were all booked out. The group then arranged another meeting to do some editing to try and cover up the mistake.

Getting together for the rest of the production also ran smoothly. All involved were open and receptive to meeting when time suited everyone. Adding elements such as kick drum, reverse crash were carried out by Peter manning Logic predominantly with input from myself and Cody. I constructed the vocal synth for the track using Logic. Mixing and adding effects such as reverb, automation etc were then carried out by myself and Peter predominantly with input from Cody also.

On a whole, with a couple of hiccups, I am happy with my efforts and the teams efforts to complete this project. I believe with better time management but most importantly, more experience, that I can create better work and at a more professional standard. I would definitely work with both Peter and Cody again as it was a good learning experience for all involved.

Teamwork is a necessity in working to a collective goal. During my time at SAE, I have stepped out of my comfort zone and begun to work with new people. It has helped me develop into a better student. I am still finding it hard to relate to some people on a professional level, as a Hip Hop head predominantly, I don't really see myself working with someone who loves build techno music... But I realise that sacrifices need to be made in order to succeed. Maybe there's something I can even learn from the dance heads!
