So this week has been a productive one for me. In accordance with the AUD210 suggested timetable, myself and fellow group member Peter have completed our Project Plan for Track number one. This included areas such as target demographics, market platforms, potential risks and mitigation procedures etc. I must admit, begrudgingly (haha), that after completing this task, the project definitely has shape now and a direction. Outlining elements such as equipment lists, studying microphones best suited for recording and mind mapping everything that is needed for the task really leaves you prepared as a producer. Being organised is vital in the pre production stages of a project, as it helps to alleviate unforeseen variables and gives you more time to focus on the real task at hand, to record a solid track.
Also in week 2, the class was taken to the Neeve Studio to learn about Signal Flow with Adrian. I need practice in this studio. I understand the process of signal flow, but the new desk was a little difficult for me to get my head around. 'Repetition is the father of learning'.... I am confident that I can be professional and utilize this desk for recording/processing purposes soon and I will be booking session times in the coming weeks to get my skills up. I will also revisit this task in a later blog when I have more to talk about.
God damn I've watched a lot of tutorial videos this week. The Ableton Live 9 Essential Training video has been a big help for me, as prior to the commencement of this project, I hadn't even seen this program open on a computer screen! I learned how to navigate the session view window a little and also how to load, play, move and copy clips for the purposes of arrangement. I also learned how to record and edit midi and now have a basic understanding of automation in Ableton, which could be utilized for this project.
Finally, I found the video below on YouTube, which is a 'How To' of the production process behind the track we are emulating 'Till It's Gone'. We struck gold here, being able to watch a video of how all the acoustic elements were recorded is a big help. Of course there are many gaps to fill in, but we as a group are confident that with more research and multiple, multiple, multiple, mult (you get the idea) questions directed at our lecturers, that we can develop and produce a high quality track.
Tune in next week for more shit talking by Day-8 aka me.
